Dec 27

This will only be a brief entry on the Neenah wind turbine imbroglio.  I have yet to watch the video of the December 15th Neenah Common Council meeting to see how my three 3rd District aldermen explained away the reversal of their votes at the Neenah Budget Hearing on November 16th.

The Appleton Post-Crescent story on the re-insertion of a wind turbine or solar energy project into the budget caused quite a few comments.  I posted one myself (limited to 1000 characters):

I'm on the Sustainable Neenah Committee. I confess that after I made a speech opposing the windmills at the Neenah Budget Hearing on November 16th, I didn't pay any more attention. I figured that a 6-3 vote to remove wind turbines from the city budget was pretty definitive. Apparently not.

Note that the issue was resurrected in a special meeting of the Finance & Personnel Committee which took place an hour before the Council meeting on Dec. 15th. Therefore, there were no minutes of the meeting available for public inspection. The issue sailed through the F&PC and was then brought before the Council.

I had to laugh when I read "Proponents returned with a more detailed proposal for either a solar or wind energy project". How can it be "more detailed" when there's an either/or? The city is going to borrow the money for an either/or?

I also note that my three 3rd District aldermen reversed their votes from November. I can't help but wonder why.

More to come. Stay tuned.
