To the Editor, Appleton Post-Crescent:
I've learned a lot about Neenah city government from Todd Stevenson. Over the past 10 years, as an observer and as an alderman, I've seen how much Todd has been on top of things in the city and that he would make a fine Mayor.
Todd is extremely fair and even-handed. He shows his ability to lead through his confidence in debate, his appreciation for the contributions of others, and his way of getting to the heart of the matter forthrightly and energetically.
I've done some volunteer work over the years, but Todd puts me to shame. Just one example: his work with Neenah sports teams over the years led to his earning the 2003 Neenah High School Red Smith award.
In fiscal matters, Todd thinks straight. Only Neenah Finance Director Mike Easker's copy of the city budget is better annotated! Todd always verifies where the money is coming from, whether an expenditure is over or under budget, and whether the money comes from tax levies or borrowed dollars...that is, nothing gets past him. For that reason alone we would be well-served with Todd Stevenson as Mayor of Neenah.
Todd challenges every expense, including city employee contracts. He knows that the citizens have been asked to go the extra mile in our own jobs -- wage freezes and cuts, furloughs and layoffs -- and even farther: 10% of us are out of work altogether. Todd knows that we're hurting and that the city needs to pull back.
Todd's attention to detail, his willingness to act in creative ways to save money, his knowledge of city affairs, his business experience with budgets and negotiations, and his follow-through and boundless energy have earned him my vote for Mayor of Neenah. Join me on April 6th in voting for Todd Stevenson.
